Biomaterials Education

Biomaterials courses are taught to undergraduates and graduate students in a range of departments including Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. All of these departments face difficult challenges in choosing which topics to cover and in defining the “skill set” that students should develop. For an inherently interdisciplinary topic such as biomaterials, these decisions are never straightforward and often involve tradeoffs between depth and breadth of topical coverage. We will take advantage of the assembled group of leaders in biomaterials research to arrange a panel discussion of the many facets of biomaterials education.
